Sensei Mahyar Afrashteh-Moghadam was born in Tehran in 1990 and began his Aikido journey at the age of fifteen, deeply inspired by Steven Seagal’s cinematic portrayal of the art. His training started under the guidance of Sensei Nader Ostadrahimi at the Majidiyeh Dojo, where his exceptional passion, perseverance, and discipline quickly set him apart from his peers. Within a short period, his commitment and rapid progress led him to become his teacher’s ukemi (dedicated training partner), an honor that reflected both trust and skill.
Over the years, Sensei Mahyar’s devotion to Aikido has shaped him into one of the most respected figures in Iran’s Aikido community. In his early thirties, he achieved the rank of 4th Dan Aikikai, officially recognized by Hombu Dojo in Tokyo, Japan. Beyond his technical mastery, he has also successfully completed coaching qualifications and currently serves as the Head of the Education Committee of Iran Aikido Arai Dojo, where he plays a pivotal role in nurturing the next generation of practitioners.
His teaching style blends precision, discipline, and adaptability, offering students both a deep understanding of Aikido’s traditional roots and the ability to apply its principles in modern contexts. Known for his ability to connect with students, he emphasizes not only the physical techniques but also the spiritual and philosophical aspects of Aikido — harmony, respect, and self-awareness.
Today, Sensei Mahyar Afrashteh-Moghadam continues to lead classes at his dojo in Tehran, inspiring both beginners and advanced practitioners with his unique energy, dedication, and vision. Through his efforts, Aikido has become more accessible and appealing to a wider audience, contributing significantly to the growth of the art in Iran.
